Baby Mudder & Life Lessons

Part of being a parent is teaching your child about teamwork, determination, and taking risks, as these are all skills that will come in handy later in life. School will get tough, their career will undoubtedly force them to make tough decisions, and who knows, they may find themselves stranded in a remote forest during a lightening storm. Wait, what?

That’s right! My kid needs to be prepared for anything, including ice baths, barbed wire fences, and electroshock mazes. I am not taking any chances. If I had to suffer through a Tough Mudder, then she does too, dammit! (Except, she will get milk at the end, not a beer.)

But in all seriousness, I think that is one of the biggest things I question about being a parent, as Isabel becomes more of a person. I want to teach her how to be strong and confident.  I want her to have a solid moral compass to guide her decisions. I want  to encourage her to be independently happy. I want her to have empathy for others, like her mother. I want her to be a better communicator than I am. I want all of these things.

But first, she needs to lace up her sneakers, put on a head band, and conquer Tough Mudder with her toddler friends.
