Mama Speaks #21

Is it OK to call your child a freak, if it’s true?

Isabel is in this stage where she goes from adorable to satanic to hilarious to unbearable and back to to adorable, within the same breath.

One of the most used phrases in our house is, “Why are you crying/whining,” because let’s be real, toddlers typically have no reason do be doing either, but are always doing both. And then within 16 seconds they are on the ground, wiping up water with a paper towel like all the cool kids, melting your heart with their toddler babble and happy as a clam.

And then the words. Oh the words. More often as of late, Mama and I will just look at each other with crossed eyes (and ears), trying to decipher the nonsense coming out of our daughter’s mouth. Some words are clear as mud, and others are just mud, like this (please excuse the vertical video)…

And just the other day, she started carrying around and asking for her owl lovey. She has slept with this thing for over a year, never cared for it outside of bed before (let alone given it a name), and randomly asks for her “Hoo-hoo”? What gives? Now we have to devise ways of distracting her so we can put it back in its rightful place (HER BED) and avoid a meltdown.

I’ve accepted the fact that I won’t understand a damn thing about this child until, well, maybe never. Yay parenthood!
