The other day Mrs. FWL found an active wasp nest growing above our porch, so that night I destroyed it. When I came back into the house, she was a little saddened that I had killed the wasps with bug spray as they slept. What else was I supposed to do?I do not look forward to the day we have to explain the concept of death to our child. The idea of someone or something never coming back is tough for anyone to deal with, let alone a child, who is just beginning to understand their place in this big world. But I imagine the discussion will probably begin with the death of animals, maybe even ants, or some other insect that she sees me kill so it doesn’t bite or sting her.
